Corrugated cardboard box

Packaging products made from corrugated cardboard today are one of the most needed packaging in the domestic and world markets. Its production is entirely ensured by the corrugated cardboard production line.

The share of packaging made from paper and cellulose raw materials accounts for about 67% of the total volume of consumed packaging. This can be explained by the fact that corrugated cardboard has a light weight, which is characterized by high quality and low cost.

Most often, corrugated cardboard production lines pay for themselves within 3–4 months after the start of their operation.

Production technology

Due to the constant increase in demand for paper packaging, many enterprises are showing interest in organizing industrial production paper packaging made from cardboard and corrugated cardboard.

However, in order to decide to start of this business it is necessary to research the technology of cardboard and corrugated cardboard production, analyze the production of cardboard containers and coordination issues in opening an organization.

The manufacturing methodology for packaging lines for the production of corrugated cardboard and cardboard depends on the manufacturing line that is already available at the enterprise. The installation for cardboard and corrugated cardboard packaging is selected based on the planned production volume, design and nomenclature of the box.

The industrial process of producing packaging from corrugated cardboard and cardboard includes several stages:

  • Stage 1: cutting sheets.

To cut containers at enterprises, it is necessary to use a scoring and cutting machine.

  • Stage 2: apply printing.

Single-color or multi-color printing is applied to the flexographic station.

  • Stage 3: form blanks for boxes.

Considering the design of the boxes, various techniques can be used at this industrial stage.

This stage ensures the supply of containers to the folder-gluer machine.

Equipment for the production of packaging lines operates in automatic mode.

  • Stage 5.

At the end of industrial processes, cardboard products are formed into a tied bundle, which is placed on a pallet. For subsequent comfort, transportation of packs is tied into pallets. This is the final stage in the corrugated cardboard production line.

Equipment

An enterprise producing cardboard containers must have an automated line for the production of corrugated cardboard on the first list. Such an installation must have a list of equipment for specializing paper pulp and waste paper.

  • Hydropulver.
  • Vortex cleaner that allows you to eliminate severe switching problems.
  • Knotter;
  • Turbo separator.
  • Pulsation Mill;
  • Disc mill;
  • Vibrating sieve;
  • A vortex cleaner that allows you to eliminate minor problems with switching.
  • Mixer for waste paper.

Corrugated cardboard production lines must also have a special machine that forms the cardboard web. This machine should dry and dehydrate it. A modern cardboard manufacturing plant can produce 25–310 tons of products per day. The maximum sheet length can be 6 m.

Required material for making cardboard:

  • Cellulose.
  • Waste paper.
  • Their mixedness.

To produce 1 ton of cardboard, you need:

  • 2.5 tons of steam;
  • 1.2 tons of waste paper;
  • 650–850 kW of electricity;
  • 17–23 cc m 2 water.

Analyzing the price range for equipment for the production of corrugated cardboard, the capital investment for the acquisition of the line will be at least 100 million rubles.

The line for the production of corrugated cardboard, the price of which is 2.6 million rubles from different manufacturers, also has all the equipment, but costs several times less. However, purchasing used models is fraught with all sorts of defects and problems.

A characteristic feature of corrugated cardboard is the existence of wavy (corrugated) layers. Corrugated cardboard contains alternating flat and corrugated layers, which are glued together with different adhesives along the contact line. Gluing occurs between a flat layer of cardboard and the lower and upper surfaces of the corrugated waves.

The indicator that determines the characterizing types of corrugation is h (corrugation height) and t (corrugation pitch). The height of the corrugation is the gap between its upper and lower points. The corrugation pitch is the distance between one and the second upper adjacent points of the corrugation. The determined combination of pitch and corrugation height indicators is called a profile.

The main tasks of 3-layer corrugated sheet profiles:

  • Corrugated cardboard profile C:

used in the production of boxes and packaging for the transportation and storage of products, while having high stacking strength.

  • Corrugated cardboard profile B:

Intended for the production of boxes, trays and containers for transporting and storing products, it has low stacking strength but a good surface when printing.

  • Corrugated cardboard with profile E:

intended for the production of packaging small size, while having low stacking strength and a very good print surface.

The main tasks of profiles of 5-layer corrugated sheets:

  • Corrugated cardboard with SV profile:

Designed for the production of boxes and trays for heavy products that require high protection, while having very high stacking strength and high impact resistance.

  • Corrugated cardboard with CE profile:

Designed for the production of boxes and trays for heavy products that require high protection, while having very high stacking strength, high impact resistance, and a good print surface.

Corrugated board production line

Brands and types of corrugated cardboard

The type of corrugated cardboard is designed to comply with the parameters of the corrugated cardboard sheet according to GOST.

This product belongs to multilayer raw materials. Its thickness is determined by the amount of flat layer, or liner as it is called, as well as fluting (corrugated paper).

T is a three-layer corrugated cardboard. It contains two flat layers and one corrugated one.

Three-layer corrugated cardboard

P is a five-layer corrugated cardboard, which contains three flat (two external and one internal) and two corrugated layers.

The purpose of sheet three-layer corrugated cardboard is to produce containers and additional packaging. They are designed for packaging products that cannot withstand static loads.

The purpose of sheet, five-layer corrugated cardboard is to produce packaging products for transportation. Products for them require maximum protection from inadvertent damage or impacts. Also, five-layer corrugated cardboard is necessary for the production of large-sized corrugated containers.

Steam line

Steam lines for the production of corrugated cardboard are designed for the production of three- and two-layer corrugated cardboard.

The steam line for the production of corrugated cardboard includes the following installations:

  • Corrugated presses of cassette types.
  • Vacuum shaft B, C, format 1500 (working speed 125m/min).
  • Imported corrugated.
  • Cumulative bridge (presence of vacuum tension of the web).
  • Synchronization of frequency gluing (with drying table).
  • Cutting-scoring, longitudinal, thin-legged installation with an electronic control system and five types of scoring.
  • Transverse two-level cutting.
  • Stacker.

Additional equipment available:

  • comb corrugated press;
  • gluing;
  • longitudinal cutting;
  • transverse cutting.

BHS line

Corrugated five-layer cardboard is used to produce particularly strong and rigid packaging. For example, packaging of meat processing products, vegetables, fruits. Also for the production of large containers: refrigerator packaging, washing machine. Depending on the purpose of the container, corrugation of the “BC” profile is used; the combination “BB” is rarely used.

bhs line for the production of 5-layer corrugated cardboard, installed at the new Ilim corrugated plant, is designed to produce 5-layer corrugated cardboard with profiles B, C and E. It is also possible to use corrugated cardboard with profiles A, K, F.

BHS lines for the production of 5-layer corrugated cardboard to produce a high-quality product perform the following operations:

  • installing a cardboard roll on a rolling device;
  • pre-heating of cardboard;
  • cladding of glue on a specialized gluing installation;
  • gluing 2-layer corrugated cardboard with a heated liner, forming a five-layer corrugated cardboard;
  • drying corrugated cardboard.

After unwinding, the paper batting goes into a corrugated press, in which the paper is corrugated using two rollers and heated steam. Starch glue is applied to the top of the corrugation on the upper side. Next, the cardboard material goes into another corrugated press where the corrugated sheet is connected to the cardboard. This process results in 2-layer corrugated cardboard.

Next, the material from two-layer corrugated cardboard is laid in the shape of a loop to create some reserve and uninterrupted operation of the corrugated installation. After which, the material is transferred to the heater and fed to the gluing installation.

Starch glue is applied there. 2-layer corrugated cardboard is combined with other cardboard material.Thus, a three-layer corrugated cardboard is formed. To produce five-layer corrugated cardboard in a corrugated installation, there is another corrugated press.

The glued layers of corrugated cardboard enter the drying apparatus, in which excess moisture is released and the material is firmly glued together in the layers. At the end, rotary scissors are fixed. They are needed to eliminate substandard workpieces and ensure transition to the next stage.

And also to change the size of the workpiece. The finished canvas goes into a special scoring and cutting unit, in which strips of the required width are cut and the edges are trimmed at the same time. The line of the next fold of the canvas is also drawn there in order to correctly form the box.

After that, the material is cut into a sheet of the required length, resulting in a workpiece completely ready for subsequent processing. Subsequent manipulation of the sheets is carried out on the processing line.

Corrugated boxes

The corrugated box production line produces products through technological processes that include several stages.

Stage I: material procurement.

The first stage of production includes a number of operations:

  • dissolve waste paper (dissolution occurs in a pulper);
  • clean the waste paper mass from large-scale ingredients (the process is carried out using a vortex cleaner with a high concentration);
  • dissolution of finished, purified accumulations (produced in a pulsation mill);
  • fine cleaning;
  • mass flow into the composition pool;
  • the composition of the clusters includes the addition of rosin glue, alumina and starch;
  • the resulting paper pulp undergoes additional, fine cleaning, which is carried out using vortex cleaners and knotters.

Stage II: making a cardboard box.

  • The paper conglomerate begins to enter a special machine (the substance in it is subjected to pressing and dehydration, as well as drying);
  • upon completion of this operation, the process of forming a cardboard box occurs. Finally, the waste boxes pass through the rollers of machine calenders and there, under a stop high pressure the sheet of the product is smoothed;
  • the finished product is wound on tambour shafts and sent to a slitting machine;
  • On the machine, the cardboard is cut into several sheets of the required parameters, and this becomes the final technological process making a cardboard box.

Line equipment for the production of corrugated boxes:

An enterprise producing cardboard containers must have in the necessary order automated line for the production of corrugated boxes. Such an installation must have a list of equipment for specializing paper pulp and waste paper.

The box, which is made of corrugated cardboard, has complex structure and is produced by rotary or flat die cutting. This provides high quality and accuracy. The most common boxes in this category are American (four flap) packaging boxes for a wide range of product use and various tray-type products.
