Who is Katya Rosenberg, who turned out to be the cause of the conflict between the Durov brothers and former top manager of VKontakte Anton Rosenberg. Stranger Things: Durov, cats, Telegram and the girl worth a hundred million Katya Rosenberg

St. Petersburg resident Ekaterina Rosenberg confirmed in a comment to reporters that it was she who was being discussed in the post by former technical director of VKontakte Anton Rosenberg and her husband. According to him, it was the girl who caused his quarrel with the Durov brothers and litigation for tens of millions of rubles. On her VKontakte page we found indirect evidence that this story may be at least partly true.

Former deputy technical director of VK Nikolai Durov Anton Rosenberg published a large article on the Medium website. He accused the Durov brothers, the founders and former owners social networks, in betrayal. In the article, he talks about his long friendship with his older brother, Nikolai Durov, and then about the history of the labor conflict that happened in the brothers’ new business, Telegram. According to Rosenberg, he was fired from Telegram due to a quarrel with Nikolai, for personal reasons. Allegedly, Durov Sr. fell in love with his girlfriend, and now his wife, Katya Rosenberg, showed her signs of attention, and hated Anton.

As a result, the Durovs and Rosenberg parted on bad terms. And now the Telegraph company has sued Rosenberg to recover 100 million from him for disclosing trade secrets, and he, in turn, is trying to sue the company for compensation for unfair dismissal.

Anton Rosenberg

Rosenberg’s huge article begins with a story about who Nikolai Durov is, with whom they studied together, participated in mathematical Olympiads and even went to army training. According to the author, Durov Sr. was always a very gifted person mathematically, but strange and helpless in everyday life. He's up to recent years lived with his mother, had difficulty taking care of himself (for example, he ate porridge with bugs without noticing it). And besides, he considered himself a cat.

On the St. Petersburg State University forum he had the nickname K.O.T., which later turned into the nickname Cat, which eventually replaced the name. Moreover, Kolya actually considers himself a cat, calls his mother Big Cat, loves to meow on the street and in restaurants and encourages others to do the same. […] However, everyone in the company had long been accustomed to such cute eccentricities and did not pay attention to it; jokes about cats like this, also repeated many times, no longer surprised anyone.

Rosenberg says that the Durovs and he and his girlfriend vacationed in the same company more than once and were friends. After Pavel Durov left, and with him Nikolai, he also left the company, informally helped Pavel in the Telegram startup, including not quite legally transporting servers from continental Europe to London.

And then, Rosenberg writes, he found out that Nikolai Durov had long been in love with his girlfriend, who later became his wife, and showed her signs of attention behind his back. After the explanation, Durov Sr. and Rosenberg quarreled.

At first she took this for friendly gestures, then she did not dare to tell, because she knew that we had been friends since childhood, and that we also worked together. In addition, she herself had recently gotten a job at the same company. This betrayal, meanness and hypocrisy were unspeakable for me, and I, naturally, immediately told Nikolai everything that I thought about this. Then Nikolai cut off my access at work.

Formally, at this moment (in January 2017), Anton Rosenberg was working at the Russian Telegraph LLC. In the article he writes that this company is associated with Telegram. After his dismissal, he sued his employer to receive compensation, and then Telegraph filed a counterclaim for 100 million. By showing the court screenshots of official correspondence, Rosenberg allegedly caused damage by revealing a trade secret. Anton himself considers the accusations absurd.

Pavel Durov, in an interview with Roem, denied Rosenberg’s words and called him crazy.

I heard from his family that the man suffers from mental illness. In this regard, I would not like to comment at length on this story.

However, Rosenberg’s wife Ekaterina, in a commentary to RBC, fully confirmed her husband’s version.

The article is about me, yes. I read the article and agree with its content.

She is not yet ready to give a more detailed comment. Little is known about Ekaterina Rosenberg, née Volkova. Therefore, we looked at her profile on VK to understand what kind of person she is and whether Nikolai Durov could really be in love with her.

According to Anton Rosenberg, Ekaterina worked in the same company Telegraph LLC in January 2017, and before that, judging by the photographs on her page, she worked in the VKontakte office, in the same place as Anton himself. Ekaterina willingly takes pictures.

She enjoys reading, philosophy, and sports. The profile contains photos during aerobics classes.

Ekaterina travels a lot - throughout Europe, warm countries, and Russia. Photos from different trips appear on the page 2-3 times a year.

In several photographs taken at New Year's corporate party VK in December 2016, she appears in the form of a catwoman. With a lightsaber.

Or without a sword.

Just after this New Year's party, as Anton Rosenberg writes, in early January 2017, he learned that Nikolai Durov had fallen in love with Ekaterina Rosenberg. If you look closely at the photographs, you will notice that in 2016 and earlier Nikolai Durov constantly liked almost all the girl’s photos.

And photos from the gym, and VK memes.

And portraits.

And, of course, photos in a Catwoman costume.

There are really a lot of them. Was it a coincidence that the appearance on new year party Ekaterina Rosenberg in a cat costume and her husband’s quarrel with Nikolai Durov is unknown. But, as the former deputy technical director and then technical director of VK hinted in his article, the business interests of the Durov brothers may suffer because of this quarrel.

In addition to the fascinating melodramatic line, Rosenberg’s article contains statements that may raise questions about Telegraph LLC and Pavel Durov as the owner of Telegram from the tax authorities and Roskomnadzor. He hints that Durov is the real owner of Telegraph LLC and this company specifically shows losses in order to avoid paying taxes, and also carelessly manages paperwork. At the same time, according to Rosenberg, Pavel leads a luxurious lifestyle and actually owns expensive real estate and cars.

One hundred million is 1/5 of the cost of Pavel’s apartment in the Fifth Element residential complex, located on the shore of a pond in the center of Primorsky Victory Park on Krestovsky Island in St. Petersburg (500 million rubles). Riot police came to this apartment to pick him up on December 9, 2011. Apparently, it was there that the decision was made to create Telegraph-Telegram. Pavel’s avatar was made in it on June 12, 2011, Russia Day.

Rosenberg claims that the apartment still actually belongs to Durov, since he transferred it to his mother. In addition, he mentions a white Maybach for 13.5 million, flights on private jets, renting a medieval castle and other expenses. Durov denies that he owns an expensive apartment or car.

No, neither I nor my relatives own apartments in the Fifth Element residential complex or similar cars. I think this is checked by all kinds of registries.

According to RBC, the British company Telegram Messenger LLP, which manages the Telegram messenger, is owned in equal shares by offshore Telegraph Inc. and Dogged Labs Ltd. Pavel Durov, through these offshore companies, owns 75% of the company. The same company Telegraph Inc. also owns the Russian Telegraph LLC. Statements of claim, published by Anton Rosenberg, signed general director Telegraph LLC by Alexander Stepanov. Durov denies a direct connection between Telegraph LLC and Telegram Messenger LLP. In an interview with Meduza, he said that the companies are not in “any” relationship.

In June 2017, Roskomnadzor demanded that the company operating the Telegram messenger provide data to be included in the register of information distributors, otherwise it would be blocked. At first Durov refused, but: all the information for this is in the public domain. Some saw in this Paul’s defeat and willingness to compromise, others believe that nothing will change.

Former technical director of VKontakte Anton Rosenberg accused Pavel Durov and his brother Nikolai of treason. On September 18, he published a post on Medium in which he said that the relationship between him and his brothers went wrong due to the fact that Nikolai was not indifferent to his wife Ekaterina. According to Rosenberg, this was the reason for his dismissal from Telegram.

Rosenberg claimed that he tried to challenge his dismissal in court, and Telegraph LLC, allegedly controlled by Pavel Durov, wants to recover 100 million rubles from him for disclosing trade secrets. However, Durov himself denies involvement in filing such a lawsuit. He stated that he considers Rosenberg's post to be a provocation or a manifestation of mental illness.

That same evening, the conflict between Rosenberg and the Durovs became the main topic of discussion on social networks. One of the first to comment on it was the scandalous businessman Oleg Tinkov. He accused the brothers of incest and promised help to the fired employee.

“Oh, the Durovs also have incest... I always knew about his inclinations. Anton, write to us - we will help you legally with a person, we are against Durov, who does not comply with Russian laws,” Tinkov wrote on his page in "In contact with".

Made fun of the situation and Russian division PornHub. On the page of a porn site on VKontakte, appeared a message in which Nikolay Durov was offered a free premium account.

“Nikolai Durov, in order to avoid such problems, we are ready to give away a premium on Pornhub,” representatives of the site said. Subscribers rejoiced at the “decent trolling” from their favorite site.

The most active in terms of memeizing the conflict were the anonymous people “Dvacha”, who actively began to rivet memes on this topic. Some authors of Telegram channels drew attention to the scandal, playing on Nikolai Durov’s passion for cats.

Wife of former deputy technical director social network"VKontakte", ex-employee of Telegraph LLC Anton Rosenberg, who accused the founder of the social network Pavel Durov of illegal dismissal, commented on the conflict. Ekaterina told RBC that she agreed with the content of her husband’s article published on the Medium platform, in which he named his wife as the cause of the conflict with Pavel Durov’s older brother Nikolai.

“The article is about me, yes. I read the article and agree with its content,” the woman said. Ekaterina Rosenberg noted that she is not yet ready to give a detailed comment on this matter.

On September 18, Rosenberg published an article in which he said that he was fired from Telegram because of his personal conflict with Nikolai Durov. According to the author of the material, Durov Sr. “secretly hated him” because he was in love with his future wife at that time and showed signs of attention to her behind his back. According to Rosenberg, for this reason Durov, whom he knew from school, insisted on his dismissal. “I immediately told Nikolai everything I thought about this. Then Nikolai cut off my access at work,” he wrote.

In the letter, Rosenberg said that associated with Telegram Russian company Telegraph filed a lawsuit against him in the amount of about 100 million rubles as compensation for damages for disclosing trade secrets. Rosenberg said that Durov owned an apartment in the Fifth Element residential complex for 500 million rubles and a Maybach car.

Pavel Durov rejected his former subordinate's accusations as "baseless." In a conversation with Meduza, he admitted that he knows Rosenberg, but noted that, according to members of his family, “the man suffers from mental illness.” Rosenberg responded by telling RBC that it was “difficult for him to comment” on Durov’s response.

Durov told the Vedomosti newspaper that Rosenberg’s statements are not true, and his post is 90% schizophasic, that is, written by a person with a mental speech disorder - schizophasia. Durov also told the publication that he is not the owner of Telegraph LLC and this company has nothing to do with the Telegram messenger.

At the same time, Durov, as before, did not deny the fact of his acquaintance with Rosenberg and also noted that “I heard from his family that the man suffers from mental illness.” In addition, Durov told Meduza that he had nothing to do with the claims of Rosenberg and Telegraph and did not fire Rosenberg, since he was not his employee.

Pavel Durov said that Telegraph has not been in any way connected with Telegram Messenger LLP for “a long time.” However, according to the Kartoteka service, Telegraph LLC is wholly owned by the Belizean offshore Telegraph Inc., one of the two founders of Telegram Messenger LLC. According to the SPARK system, the owner of Telegraph LLC is Telegraph Inc., registered in Belize.

Two sources close to the social network VKontakte and Mail.ru Group told Vedomosti that part of the Telegram team works in Singer’s house in St. Petersburg. Durov has previously repeatedly denied that Telegram has a Russian office; company employees are prohibited from indicating on social networks that they work for Telegram, sources explained. According to them, with such actions Durov hopes to avoid pressure on employees, including from the intelligence services.

Durov launched VKontakte in 2006, and the Telegram messenger was released in 2013. In 2014, due to a conflict with another shareholder of the network - the UCP fund - Durov resigned as general director of Vkontakte, then sold his stake in the company. Currently, the company is wholly owned by Mail.ru Group.

Anton Rosenberg mentioned in his article that Nikolai Durov considered himself a cat. On his VK wall, reposts with memes about cats, photographs of cats, and quotes about cats constantly appear.

There are really a lot of them. It is unknown whether the appearance of Ekaterina Rosenberg at the New Year's party in a cat costume and her husband's quarrel with Nikolai Durov coincided in time. But, as the former deputy technical director and then technical director of VK hinted in his article, the business interests of the Durov brothers may suffer because of this quarrel.

Pavel Merzlikin

On September 18, Anton Rosenberg, who calls himself the former technical director of VKontakte and the former director of special areas at Telegram, published in which he spoke about his conflict with Nikolai and Pavel Durov, the brothers who founded the social network and messenger. Rosenberg is trying to challenge in court his dismissal from Telegraph LLC, which, according to him, is controlled by Pavel Durov; at the same time, the Telegraph company, in turn, plans to recover 100 million rubles from Rosenberg for disclosing trade secrets. On September 19, hearings on both claims were held in St. Petersburg courts. Meduza correspondent Pavel Merzlikin visited them and tells what new things have become known about the conflict.

[IA "RBC", 09.19.2017, "The court postponed the hearing on the claim of Durov's company against the ex-employee": The Petrodvortsovy District Court of St. Petersburg postponed the preliminary hearing on the claim of the company Telegraph LLC against the former employee of the company Anton Rosenberg. This was reported by a correspondent of RBC St. Petersburg.
The next meeting will take place on October 17. The process will be closed. [...]
After his dismissal, Rosenberg filed a lawsuit for reinstatement and recovery of earnings for forced absence. He also wanted him to be compensated for moral damages. The amount of declared claims is about 462 thousand rubles. Rosenberg vs. Telegraph

“Pavel Durov wants 100 million rubles from me,” - this is how Anton Rosenberg began his fast on Facebook, published September 18; and attached to it a publication on a medium dedicated to the conflict with the Durov brothers. The next day, September 19, the Kuibyshevsky District Court of St. Petersburg considered Rosenberg’s claim against Telegraph LLC, the company where, according to Rosenberg, they worked Russian employees Telegram, and where he himself was fired after a conflict with Pavel Durov’s brother Nikolai. Rosenberg himself believes that this happened illegally.

Before the meeting, Rosenberg, who was preparing to challenge his dismissal, mentioned Pavel Durov only a couple of times. He said that he considers the position of the creator of Telegram “untrue” - on Monday Durov, that Rosenberg had nothing to do with the Telegram team and he knows nothing about his dismissal. Moreover, Pavel Durov said that he “heard from the family” of Rosenberg that he “suffers from mental illness.”

“Naturally, I don’t have any diagnosis. I’ve had a weapons permit for several years now; they simply wouldn’t have given me one,” Rosenberg insisted in a conversation with a Meduza correspondent. He added that he was on friendly terms with both Pavel and Nikolai, and he was “very offended” by this attitude.

Rosenberg came to the court hearing wearing a branded T-shirt from the tourist club of St. Petersburg State University students (Nikolai Durov and Anton Rosenberg are mentioned as classmates, for example); Before the trial, he told reporters with a smile about his hobbies (news, literature, mountain tourism, gardening) and generally behaved calmly. He only admitted that he didn’t count on such a resonance: “I didn’t write anything completely new - something that, for example, people in the industry wouldn’t know, or wouldn’t be published in the media” (this is disingenuous: the post, if true, contains a lot previously unknown details about the life of the Durov brothers, including private information that was clearly not intended for the public).

Neither Pavel nor Nikolai wrote to him after the publication of the post, says Rosenberg. But potential employers contacted him. Among them are companies that have created and are developing other instant messengers (Rosenberg did not mention the names). Representatives of the intelligence services, who have long been interested in Telegram, have not contacted Rosenberg, according to him.

The plaintiff spoke dispassionately about all the circumstances of the conflict with the Durov brothers, sometimes with a smile. The only thing that the former technical director of VKontakte did not want to talk about was the role of his wife in this story (in a post on the medium, Rosenberg claims that his dismissal from Telegram was caused by a personal conflict with Nikolai Durov, who showed signs of attention to the girl). “Right now I’m looking at this as a labor dispute about my dismissal. I wouldn't want to drag my wife into this. It’s just that in my article I couldn’t help but at least briefly mention this point, otherwise it wouldn’t be clear what kind of conflict we’re talking about we're talking about", he explained his position. Rosenberg also confirmed that his wife, like him, worked at Telegraph LLC, but refused to clarify whether she still works there. Anton Rosenberg’s wife Ekaterina told RBC on the morning of September 19 that she “read the article [on the medium] and agrees with its content.”

[Gazeta.Ru, 09.19.2017, “I couldn’t fire a person who didn’t work for me”: According to Rosenberg, “everything changed” on January 7, 2017, when he unexpectedly found out that Nikolai Durov secretly hated him, how so in love with a girl and Anton's future wife Ekaterina. After Rosenberg told Nikolai everything he thought about him, the elder Durov cut off his access at work.
Rosenberg claims that Pavel Durov tried to smooth out the rough edges and make sure that Anton and Nikolai did not intersect within the office, but in the end he made a choice in favor of his brother and suggested that Rosenberg write a statement on at will. He refused. - Insert K.ru]

But Rosenberg talked a lot about the activities of Telegraph LLC itself. According to him, at least until recently, all of its employees were involved in the development of the Telegram messenger. Rosenberg himself served as director of special areas and was responsible for automating the fight against spam in the messenger. Rosenberg refused to name the total number of Telegraph employees, but emphasized that he does not know about other companies that employ as many Telegram developers. Key decisions at Telegraph, according to Rosenberg, were also made by Pavel Durov, including the decision to dismiss Rosenberg himself from Telegraph LLC.

This company is associated with the developers of Telegram. One of the founders of the British Telegram Messenger LLP, which uploaded the Telegram messenger to application stores, is Telegraph Inc, a company registered in Belize. According to the Unified State Register of Legal Entities, the same Telegraph Inc owns Telegraph LLC. At the same time, Pavel Durov told Meduza that now Telegraph and Telegram Messenger LLP are not connected in any way; Previously, Telegram, according to Durov, outsourced “analysis of Russian-language spam” to this LLC.

On September 19, the third hearing in the case took place - but the first where the essence of the claim was discussed. At the previous meeting, Rosenberg's lawyer Yuri Golovin petitioned to call Pavel Durov as a witness; however, lawyers for Telegraph LLC stated that Durov has nothing to do with the company.

Rosenberg said that Telegraph LLC was based in the Singer House in the center of St. Petersburg - in the same building where the headquarters of VKontakte is located. According to Rosenberg, Nikolai Durov also worked there. It was not necessary for employees to be constantly present in the office - it was enough to complete their tasks on time.

Formally, Rosenberg was fired from Telegraph LLC precisely because he allegedly skipped work and did not show up at the office for 19 days in a row. He himself denies this; Rosenberg provided the court with screenshots of his correspondence, which prove that he was at work on all the “truant” days. He says that his goal is to prove to the court that he was fired illegally, and ideally he wants to get the position back. “I want to continue working. Everything was great in Telegram,” he emphasized.

From his employer, Rosenberg demands one and a half million rubles - this amount includes compensation for moral damages of 60 thousand rubles (according to Rosenberg, when he was fired, he experienced great stress and went to see a doctor), salary arrears that arose in March-April 2017 and salary , which he has not received since April 2017. The amount of demands is constantly growing, as the amount of lost wages increases - initially Rosenberg demanded to pay him about 460 thousand rubles.

Work record book of Anton Rosenberg
He says that he is ready for a peaceful resolution of the situation if his position is returned to him, and Pavel Durov writes a post on social networks that the whole scandal was caused by a personal conflict, and not professional qualities Rosenberg.

Rosenberg also said that he was ready for a settlement agreement without returning the position. He confirmed to Meduza that he offered Telegraph to pay him 30 million rubles so that he would withdraw the claim. “It was an emotional reaction to being fired. Of course, I didn't expect to be paid that much. I just wanted to hear at least some proposal from them. But the only thing I heard was 100 rubles from their lawyer before one of the meetings,” he noted; Rosenberg believes it was a joke.

After his speech, the meeting ended: Telegraph lawyers simply did not attend. As well as witnesses - Telegraph employees who allegedly reported Rosenberg’s absenteeism. The next hearing on this claim will take place on October 24.

"Telegraph" against Rosenberg

On September 19, the Petrodvortsovo District Court considered the counterclaim of Telegraph LLC against Anton Rosenberg. The company claims that he disclosed trade secrets when he indicated on Facebook that his place of work was Telegram.org, where you can download the messenger. In addition, he provided notarized screenshots of work correspondence to the court, where he is challenging his dismissal.

Telegraph LLC's lawsuit claims that because of these actions, Telegram Messenger LLP broke off with him employment contract- and demands compensation of 100 million rubles for lost profits from failed cooperation. "I think this lawsuit is an emotional response to my lawsuit," Rosenberg says. His lawyer Yuri Golovin insists that Telegraph LLC did not explain in any way how they calculated 100 million in lost profits.

Rosenberg insists he did not divulge any trade secrets. In his opinion, the company, in principle, cannot bring such a claim against him, since he did not sign any formal agreements on trade secrets that complied with all laws - only an employment agreement, which contained clauses on non-disclosure of certain details of the company's work.

Before the court hearing, Rosenberg again explained to journalists that he does not seek and does not want to reveal any secrets of the messenger, he knows nothing about the relationship between Telegram and the intelligence services, as well as whether the messenger monitors users’ correspondence.

["Vedomosti", 09/20/2017, "Why the conflict around Telegram broke out": In addition, Rosenberg claims that the founders of Telegram deleted his correspondence from the moment of registration in the messenger in 2013 until February 14, 2017.
“Moreover, it was deleted only on the server, since the messages cached on my phone did not go anywhere. In general, everything looked exactly as if someone had made a request delete_first_messages (“delete the first N messages of the user”) - such a function was still in the text-engine engine, developed in VK and later published in open source so that Telegram could legally continue to use this code,” writes Rosenberg. According to him, Durov called the incident a minor technical glitch and promised that the correspondence history would be returned after nightly re-indexing (after the deadline in which he was required to respond had expired). “The next morning the correspondence history actually came back. But thanks to this combination, I was able to get some useful information that finally convinced me that there was no bug, and behind this whole story was Nikolai Durov, who, by an amazing coincidence, is the author of that very text-engine,” Rosenberg said.
The story with Telegram is interesting because the administration has access to the correspondence history of individual users, says security expert Alexey Lukatsky. “And all this against the backdrop of Durov’s claims that he does not have access to correspondence. But if he can delete and then restore the correspondence of a specific user, then where is the guarantee that his capabilities are limited to this?
Durov himself told Vedomosti that Rosenberg’s statements, including regarding the correspondence, are untrue, and the text of Rosenberg’s letter itself is “90% schizophasic.” - Insert K.ru]

Representatives of Telegraph LLC did not come to this meeting either. The next one will take place on October 17 and will most likely be held behind closed doors. Telegraph LLC will insist on this - the lawsuit states that information constituting a commercial secret may be disclosed in court.

Rosenberg noted that this is exactly the kind of turn he fears. According to him, the possibility of a closed trial forced him to write a post on the medium. “A claim for 100 million is already a cause for concern. Well, in a closed process, anything can happen - for example, some non-disclosure documents that I allegedly signed will appear. I hope this won’t happen now,” he says.

[Fontanka.Ru, 09/19/2017, “The hearing on the claim of a “former Telegram employee” has been postponed”: Today, on the “Ruthless PR Man” channel, the text of a settlement agreement appeared, which Rosenberg allegedly offered to Telegraph LLC.
It follows from it that Telegram may be sold in the future, and employees are promised compensation in the amount of tens of millions of US dollars. And Nikolai Durov continues to “stalk” Rosenberg’s wife - he likes her mother on VKontakte and calls from an international number.
Businessman Oleg Tinkov is already ready to stand up for Rosenberg, who offered Anton legal assistance: “Oh, the Durovs also have incest... I always knew about his inclinations,”
