Beautiful girls pin-up paintings

When confronted, many call them outrageous and shocking. The artist himself calls his sketches satirical and attributes them to the everyday genre with a caricature slant.

Vladimir Kazak is a contemporary Russian artist who was born in Tver in 1973. In 1995 he graduated from the Tver Art School with a degree in graphic design.

The primary goal of art is to amaze, and my work is a kind of protection from the surrounding predatory world.

I graduated from art school in the city of Tver. Since 1993 he worked as an illustrator of children's books. A year after graduating from college, I mastered the computer, primarily the layout programs - Quark XPress and Aldus Page Maker. I drew in fits and starts, mostly for educational literature, which I actually typed up. Then he changed several studios and publishing houses, where he worked as a designer and art director.

Now I also do freelance design, mostly packaging and a little illustration. There is a pool of clients, mostly local businesses, which I have been managing for many years... I work with magazines and advertising agencies, of course I have a dream to draw my own book.

I love drawing women and airplanes. No not like this. First the planes, then the women.

The main advantage of speedpaint is the freshness of perception. It often happens that excessive elaboration of details ruins the impression of the work. A person can sit for several days or weeks, drawing eyelashes, highlights and folds, correcting the anatomy, but the finished work will smell only of his sweat. And in speedpaint he simply won’t have time to ruin it! Yes, in a quick drawing, especially if the author is not Craig Mullins, the flaws are more visible, but they are outweighed by the opportunity to see it in the nude, the main thing is what impressed the author and made him take up a pencil or tablet.

In fact, I recently started drawing on a tablet. Drawing in the classical way is different, but with a tablet I think I’m still not on the same page. On the one hand, its possibilities seem limitless, on the other, in two active years of working on it (and three more previous periodic ones:) I was not able to develop sufficient hardness of the line, which I can draw with a pencil or sauce on paper.

The fact is that I did not have a course in classical composition; everything that I managed to learn on my own did not replace systematic education. With the advent of computers, the skills that I acquired at school could easily be thrown into trash. Well, who now needs to write with a poster pen or roll out a gradient on a tablet using a roller?

As for drawings, apparently I just really like to draw and sometimes it works out. On average, the drawing takes an hour and a half. Sometimes it’s faster, but sometimes the picture sucks you in and there’s no way to stop in time.

In my direct work, I am inspired by the desire to make a bottle/box/jar beautiful. Once in another city, on the window of a residential building, I saw a bouquet in an empty bottle of my design. This is better than any Avard...

If we talk about drawings, I don’t even know the specific source of inspiration. Sometimes you take a plot out of your head that has been hanging around for a long time and adapt it; you are often inspired by the work of a colleague - how he looked at an object that is common to you.

Bicycle rides with my daughter through industrial surroundings provide a lot of ideas. The Strugatskys are resting! What never inspires me is Japanese cartoons and the fantasy genre. Everything there has already been chewed so well that all that remains is to swallow and forget.

It's hard to know where the hobby ends and everyday life begins. I heard somewhere that if work is done for pleasure, then it is no longer work. Of course, there are difficult orders and intractable customers from whom you want to take a break.
For this problem I have two solutions - speedpaint and bicycle.

I still can’t decide which invention is more ingenious - a bicycle or a computer. There is also a notebook, in which I usually draw pictures of my wife and daughter, as well as friends who drink wine with me on weekends. I also collect books about aviation.

21 In my opinion, a key part of being a CG artist is the ability to produce work that meets the task at hand. It doesn’t matter who directed it - the artist himself or the art director of his studio. But that's not all.

Recently, my colleagues and I were talking about art, what is its task - to teach beauty, to cultivate good feelings, or to finally awaken conscience? And they came to the conclusion that its main goal, no matter how strange it may sound, is to amaze. Amaze the viewer. And this ability is doubly important for an artist who works in a market where the customer always needs “yesterday,” where public tastes and priorities change almost every month. Otherwise, no one will see his work; it will simply get lost among the more successful works of his colleagues.

The recipe for creating good work? First of all, a good cook and the right ingredients. In our country, as in cooking, it is important not to overcook the work (otherwise it will fall apart), not to overcook (maintain color balance), not to over-pepper (the client may sneeze), and not to “flavor” it too much with strawberries (the morality police may get stomach ache). In general, to make a product technologically flawless.

Another factor that cannot be described in a cookbook is inspiration. Without it, alas, masterpieces cannot be created. Unfortunately, this factor does not depend on deadlines, fees and ambition. But self-discipline can help - if not a masterpiece, then Good work a real specialist will always do it!

It seems to me that growth is faster in a team. Moreover we're talking about about a live team, not a virtual one. Especially if it has a leader to look up to. Well, team spirit again! When a person reaches a certain level, the team can become a burden to him. And here a person needs to choose what is more important for his self-realization - success, money, recognition from colleagues, or, perhaps, family and the opportunity to do what he loves alone. This is my personal point of view and I may be wrong.

For beginners, I would advise the same thing that I would wish for myself - draw more and get good orders! Well, in a little more detail, then draw constantly, carry a notebook with you - draw in the subway, on trains, in clubs, when you come home, read Gottfried Bammes (or rather, watch and study), observe what your colleagues draw and learn from them. You can make copies of their works - this is useful. Well, your own style will come on its own, it just needs a little help :)

Pin-up is a style of the 50s of American origin, a bright creative direction that implies the image of a flirtatious, half-naked, slightly awkward girl who demonstrates playfulness, admiration or other overt unexpected emotions.

This retro twist has still not lost popularity, and despite the fact that a pin-up model should be sexy and seductive, even pregnant girls often arrange a photo shoot in this particular style.

The style is ideal for the following topics:

  • Photo session for pregnant women;

  • Picnic;

  • Walk;

  • Hen-party;

  • Photo session with a friend;

  • Shooting for plus size girls;

  • Wedding photo session of the bride.

Image ideas

Recognizable style images include the following:

  • Housewife in all everyday situations(cleaning, cooking, washing, gathering in front of the mirror, trying on outfits, and so on);

  • Locksmith, auto mechanic, captain and many other male professions;

  • Nurse, flight attendant and many other women's professions;

  • Traveler(tourist in the city or countryside, in nature);

  • Tourist on the beach. This includes all the images of the charming tourist;

  • Creative person(this includes images of an artist, a musician, a photographer, a girl reading a book, and so on);

  • Yoke(this image can be played out in many ways; it does not include attachment to a profession or action).

Makeup

Deep red lipstick and black eyeliner are considered mandatory style attributes. The main features of makeup are neatly drawn arrows on the eyes, they are always raised up on the outer corner of the eye, and thus achieve a playful look. There should be a slight blush on the model's face, preferably her skin should be white or light. Lip color is usually scarlet or coral; peach and sand are also acceptable shades.

If the photo shoot involves close-up shots of your hands, then it is advisable to get a red manicure.

Hairstyle

Pin-up style styling should match the image of a frivolous housewife or a flirtatious seductress. Therefore, unruly large curls and ringlets are considered the ideal hairstyle; lush backcombing and hair rollers are welcome. To create a successful look, additional accessories are also suitable, for example, bright bows, headbands, ribbons, scarves, flowers, curlers and hairpins.

What to wear

All clothes of the model must be feminine, that is, no sporty style. It is better to choose colored retro dresses made of flowing light fabric, flared skirts, sundresses with sleeves in the form of lanterns. A combination of short T-shirts, tops and blouses with various skirts will be successful. A good option is an airy blouse and a miniskirt with lace, or a shirt tied at the stomach and short shorts, preferably denim.

If the photo shoot is racy, then a short robe or peignoir made of translucent fabric will do.

Accessories

As accessories you need to use items that were popular at that time. For example, large round glasses, preferably matching the dress. All jewelry should also be very large and catchy, be it a string of pearls, rings or earrings. Ladies of that time could not do without gloves, so they can also be used in the image.

When choosing shoes, you are given complete freedom of action, since both wedge and high-heeled shoes are suitable, the main thing is that they match the chosen clothes and accessories. Pumps are considered a classic option; shoes can be decorated with brooches, flowers or bows.

Where to spend

The style can be implemented in almost any location:

  • At home. Suitable for your kitchen, bedroom, bathroom.
  • In the interior. A restaurant or cafe decorated in retro style is suitable.
  • In a studio. This can be either a themed photo zone or a plain light background.
  • Outdoors. In this case, the ideas of a picnic and a walk are played out.
  • On-site shooting. In this case, many thematic places are suitable for a photo shoot: a garage, a beach, a ship, a fashion boutique, and so on.

How to pose

A pin-up model should be alluring and seductive; posing should be on the verge of vulgarity, but only on the verge. Let's look at the most popular poses:

Sitting

In this pose, the emphasis is usually on bare legs, but it doesn’t matter what to sit on, it can be a chair, a table or even a car. A good option would be a pose where the body is in a half-turn towards the camera and leans forward with a bend at the waist.

standing

The main thing is not to stand straight, like a soldier, it is very important that all the beauty of the curves of the model’s body is visible. To get up more comfortably, you can lean on a wall, table, or car.

The classic is a pose in which the arms are brought forward, one on top of the other, they stretch down, either leg is thrown back and bent at the knee. Also popular is the recognizable pose of Marilyn Monroe, when the actress held her flowing dress.

On the knees

A very seductive position, so it is important not to forget about the beauty of the curves, and leaning on something, you can pretend that you are straightening your hair. In nature, this way you can stand by the lake, looking at the reflection in the water.

Lying and reclining

In this position, the emphasis is also on beautiful legs; they cannot simply be laid down or lowered. It is best to move them slightly apart, cross them, or simply lift them up. It is not recommended to point your legs or body directly into the camera.

Portrait

Facial expressions and facial expressions should correspond to emotions of joy or surprise; a languid look is possible.

Original photographs of girls from whom pin-ups were drawn from the 30s to the 50s.

The name Pin-Up itself comes from truck drivers who covered their trucks with pages of beautiful girls. Literally “pin up” - to pin. Pin-Up appeared at the beginning of the twentieth century, when they began to use drawn beauties for advertising and calendars, who at first were simply redrawn from photographs or even simply colored in the pictures.

Gil Elvgren is considered one of the most significant pin-up artists of the 20th century. Elvgren's heroines were “neighbor girls” who were caught by surprise during various piquant situations. Gil Elvgren redrew models and subjects for his illustrations from photographs.

Pin-Up appeared at the beginning of the twentieth century, when they began to use drawn beauties for advertising and calendars, who at first were simply redrawn from photographs or even simply colored in the pictures. The founder of pin-up is considered to be the Coca Cola company, which was the first to simply redraw candid photographs of women of that time as advertising magazine illustrations.

The name Pin-Up itself came from truck drivers who covered their trucks with pages of beautiful girls. Literally “pin up” - to pin. In Russian it is often used to refer to a specific style of American graphics from the mid-20th century.

The heyday of Pin-Up came in the 30s, when girls won magazine covers. Moreover, the girls often had nothing in common with the contents of the magazine. But collectors and hobbyists were ready to buy such magazines just because of the covers.

Second World War only spurred the flourishing of this genre, because hungry soldiers needed something to dream about and something to watch. Especially among American soldiers during World War II, posters of Betty Grable were distributed. She was one of the most famous pin-up models of the early era. Her famous swimsuit photo was included in Life magazine's list of "100 Photos That Changed the World."

*********************
Bettie Page is considered the most famous pin-up model. The American fashion model was a real sex symbol in the United States in the second half of the 50s and one of the founders of the sexual revolution movement that swept America in the early 1960s.

*********************
Initially, the unspoken laws of the Pin-Up genre required that the “main thing” be demonstrated only in hints, and not directly. Eroticism manifested itself as if by accident: an elastic band in panties burst, a skirt accidentally lifted up (with the help of the wind or a dog).

Gil Elvgren is considered one of the most significant pin-up artists of the 20th century. Elvgren’s heroines were not femme fatales, but “neighbor girls” who were caught by surprise during various piquant situations. Elvgren enjoyed commercial success and created great amount illustrated for companies such as Coca-Cola and General Electric, and illustrated many magazines (The Saturday Evening Post, Good Housekeeping and others).

The bravest artists decided to depict naked female breasts only in the 50s. The images have already begun to contain more sexual undertones. And the more frank fashion and traditions became, the more frank the pictures appeared. The famous pin-up style graphics of the 50s brought much more revelation to illustrations of beautiful women.
George Petty is an artist who became famous for his illustrations of half-naked playful girls, drawn especially for the legendary Esquire magazine in 1934. Later, these beauties became known as “Petty Girls”, and their images became extremely popular. During World War II, American pilots decorated the fuselages of their fighter planes with “Petty Girls.”

Bill Rendell is one of the most talented and original American pin-up artists of the twentieth century. His playful, eye-catching illustrations were widely in demand by glossy publications, calendar and book manufacturers. He has collaborated with Esquire, Palmolive, General Motors and others.

Edward Runci is an outstanding but not certified artist who worked in oil on canvas. The girls Ranki painted in the 50s were always very similar to Marilyn Monroe. They were created based on its prototype. Critics argued that many of Ranki's works were actually the work of his wife, who signed the paintings with their common surname "Ranki".

Earl Morin painted pastels. Unlike Elvgreen and other artists, Morin never used the same subject in his works. His work has always been more varied than the work of many famous and popular artists. One of his most famous models was Marilyn Monroe, who posed for him from 1946 to 1950.

Although Edward D'Encona painted hundreds of paintings, very little is known about him or his life. During the 40s and 50s, Edward's superb use of simple colors, loose, floating brushstrokes and his unique pin-up style of painting allowed him to rise to unprecedented heights. He was recognized as one of the best pin-up artists of the time.

Hundreds of artists have worked in the pin-up genre over the past century. Pin-up images are still used in advertising today. Because pin-up is much more than simple erotic drawings. This is just a kind of hint of eroticism, a hint that a woman is not so much a beautiful body as tenderness and mystery.
