Presentation on the topic of driving through intersections. Uncontrolled intersections presentation for a lesson on the topic. With horizontal signal arrangement

Subject: Driving through intersections

Goals:
  • General rules for driving through intersections.
  • Determination of the type and type of intersections.
  • Procedure for driving through controlled intersections.
  • Procedure for driving through unregulated intersections.
  • Requirements for crossing intersections.

Crossroads - the place of intersection, junction or branching of roads at the same level, limited by imaginary lines connecting, respectively, the opposite, most distant from the center of the intersection, beginnings of curvatures of roadways.

Exits from adjacent areas are not considered intersections.

Signalized intersections

An intersection where the order of movement is determined by traffic lights or traffic controller signals is considered Adjustable .

CONTROLLED INTERSECTIONS

When turning left or making a U-turn at a green traffic light, the driver of a trackless vehicle must give way to vehicles moving straight and to the right from the opposite direction. Tram drivers should follow the same rule among themselves (Article 12.13, Part 2 of the Administrative Code).

CONTROLLED INTERSECTIONS

When the traffic light turns on, the driver is obliged to give way to vehicles completing their movement through the intersection, and to pedestrians who have not completed crossing the roadway in this direction (Article 12.13, Part 2 of the Administrative Code; Article 12.18 of the Administrative Code).

roadway - a road element intended for the movement of trackless vehicles.

Depending on the intensity of traffic at the intersection, the configuration of the intersection, the number of traffic lanes on the roads crossed, the use of road signs and markings, intersections can be simple and complex .

B– roadway

IN– traffic lane

G– tram track

D– dividing strip

E- sidewalk

13.7. A driver who enters an intersection when the traffic light signal permits must drive in the intended direction regardless of the traffic light signal at the exit from the intersection. However, if at the intersection in front of the traffic lights located on the driver’s route there are stop lines sign 6.16, the driver must follow the signals of each traffic light.

In the case when the section is turned on together with red or yellow, then movement towards the section allowed, but necessary give way T.S. from other directions.

If the section is turned off, then movement towards the section forbidden .

Section II. Uncontrolled intersections

When the yellow signal is flashing or the traffic light is not working, the intersection is considered Unregulated.

(vehicle drivers determine the order of passage according to the right-hand rule - interference on the right).

  • The driver of a vehicle moving on a secondary road must give way to vehicles approaching on the main road, regardless of the direction of their further movement

  • The main road changes direction

  • The main road changes direction

  • Give way to vehicles approaching from the right

Traffic controller signals when passing intersections

Everyone crossing the intersection, drivers and pedestrians, must obey the traffic controller’s signals, even if the traffic controller’s signals contradict traffic light signals, road signs and markings.

When the traffic controller gives a prohibitory signal, drivers must stop at the stop line, and if there is no line:

At an intersection - in front of the roadway being crossed, without interfering with pedestrians;

Before the railway crossing - in accordance with clause 15.4 (no closer than 5 m from the barrier, 10 m from the first rail);

In other places - in front of a traffic light or traffic controller, without interfering with T.S. and pedestrians whose movement is permitted.

In order to ensure good visibility of traffic lights to drivers of cars standing directly at the stop line, repeater traffic lights with signals with a diameter of 60-100 mm are used. They are installed at a height of 1.5-2 m on the same column where the main traffic light is located. The repeater operates in coordination with the main traffic light.

The visibility of traffic light signals, according to the conditions of their placement, must be at least 100 m. If this requirement is not met, then warning sign 1.8 “Traffic light regulation” must be installed in advance.

8.7. If a vehicle, due to its size or for other reasons, cannot make a turn in compliance with the requirements of paragraph 8.5 of the Rules, it is allowed to retreat from them provided that traffic safety is ensured and if this does not interfere with other vehicles.

OVERTAKING IS PROHIBITED:

  • At signalized intersections with access to oncoming traffic, as well as at uncontrolled intersections when driving on a road that is not the main one.

EXCEPTIONS:

1. Overtaking at a roundabout

2. Overtaking two-wheelers without a side trailer

3. Allowed overtaking on the right

8.12. Reversing a vehicle is permitted provided that this maneuver is safe and does not interfere with other road users. If necessary, the driver must seek the help of others.

Reversing is prohibited at intersections and in places where turning around is prohibited in accordance with paragraph 8.11 of the Rules

Subject: Fundamentals of traffic legislation

Topic: Navigating intersections.

The purpose of the lesson: Give the concept of intersections and their types. Formulate a clear understanding of the rules for driving through various intersections.

Equipment: Traffic rules brochure, posters of various types of intersections, intersection layout, traffic rules tickets.

“Intersection” is a place where roads intersect, join or branch at the same level.

Exits from courtyards and adjacent areas are not considered intersections.

In our lesson, we will look at the rules for driving through intersections.

First you need to remember the general rule for all intersections:

1 .When turning right or left at any intersection, you must give way

pedestrians crossing the roadway you are turning onto, as well as cyclists crossing it on a bicycle path.

2 .It is prohibited to enter an intersection if there is a traffic jam behind it that will force you to stop, interfering with other vehicles.

Now let’s remember what kind of intersections we have:

1 There are controlled intersections where traffic lights or traffic controllers are installed and traffic is regulated by them.

2 There are uncontrolled intersections where the traffic light is flashing yellow, or is completely absent or does not work.

So, let's look at each intersection separately.

Signalized intersections

At controlled intersections, when turning left or when making a U-turn, when the traffic light is green, we must give way to oncoming cars moving straight or turning right.

When installing a traffic light with an additional section at an intersection and when driving along its permitting signal, which operates simultaneously with the main, red traffic light, we must also give way to vehicles moving from other directions.

If at a controlled intersection the traffic light signal allows both cars and the tram to move at the same time, then the tram has priority regardless of the direction of its movement.

If a tram moves under an additional section of a traffic light turned on together with the main red signal, then the tram must also give way to vehicles moving from other directions under the main green traffic light.

When entering an intersection under a green traffic light, we are obliged to leave it regardless of the light on the signal, including the red one.

But if, when entering a green traffic light, there is a stop line or a “stop line” sign on our way, then we are obliged to follow both traffic lights. And if a prohibiting signal comes on at the second traffic light, then we are obliged to stop at the stop line or under the stop line sign and wait for the permitting signal to leave the intersection.

And the last point: when the traffic light turns on, the driver is obliged to give way to those who complete the maneuver at the intersection, and to pedestrians crossing the roadway at the traffic light or traffic controller's permission.

Unregulated intersections.

Intersections where there are no means of regulation or where the traffic light operates in the yellow flashing signal mode are called unregulated. Such intersections are divided into:

1.Equivalent.

2. Unequal.

At unequal intersections, drivers driving on a secondary road must give way to vehicles moving on the main road, even if they deviate from the requirements of the rules.

It should be noted that trams at such intersections have an advantage, being on an equivalent road with cars.

If at an intersection the main road changes direction, then drivers, while on it, are guided by the rules for driving at equivalent intersections. And drivers, being on a secondary road, giving way to drivers of the main road, pass as an equivalent intersection.

Equivalent intersections.

At such intersections, the order of passage is not defined; all drivers are on equal terms. Here they are guided by the rule “interference from the right”, i.e. The one who has an obstacle on the right gives way.

Trams at such intersections have priority, regardless of the direction of travel.

When turning left at uncontrolled intersections, just like at regulated intersections, we are obliged to give way to vehicles moving straight towards us and turning right.

Roundabouts.

If, when approaching a roundabout intersection, there are no priority signs installed, then the one with the obstacle on the right, i.e., moving in a circle, gives way.

If there is a priority sign in front of a roundabout, for example, “give way,” then cars moving in a circle have priority in traffic.

If a driver moving on a road cannot determine the presence of a road surface due to weather conditions, then he should assume that he is on a secondary road and allow drivers from other directions to pass.

Final part.

The teacher analyzes several complex problems from traffic rules tickets.

13. 1. When turning right or left, the driver is obliged to give way to pedestrians and cyclists crossing the roadway onto which he is turning.

13. 2. It is prohibited to drive to an intersection or intersection of roadways if a traffic jam has formed that will force the driver to stop, creating an obstacle to the movement of vehicles in the transverse direction. 13. 3. An intersection where the traffic order is determined by traffic lights or traffic controller signals is considered regulated.

When there is a flashing yellow signal, non-functioning traffic lights or the absence of a traffic controller, the intersection is considered unregulated, and drivers are required to follow the rules for driving through uncontrolled intersections and the priority signs installed at the intersection.

to the right Signalized intersections To the left (turn) straight 13. 4. When turning left or turning at a green traffic light, the driver of a trackless vehicle must give way to vehicles moving from the opposite direction straight or to the right. Tram drivers should follow the same rule among themselves.

13. 5. When driving in the direction of the arrow turned on in the additional section simultaneously with a yellow or red traffic light, the driver is obliged to give way to vehicles moving from other directions. Moving along the arrow, you are driving along a secondary road!!!

13. 6. If traffic lights or traffic controller signals allow the movement of a tram and trackless vehicles at the same time, then the tram has priority regardless of the direction of its movement. However, when moving in the direction of the arrow turned on in the additional section simultaneously with a red or yellow traffic light, the tram must give way to vehicles moving from other directions.

13. 7. A driver who has entered an intersection when the traffic light signal permits must drive out in the intended direction regardless of the traffic light signals at the exit from the intersection. However, if at the intersection in front of the traffic lights located on the driver’s route there are stop lines (signs 6. 16), the driver must follow the signals of each traffic light.

13. 8. When the traffic light turns on, the driver is obliged to give way to vehicles completing their movement through the intersection, and to pedestrians who have not completed crossing the roadway in this direction. When the traffic light turns green, you must: 1. Start driving without giving way to the truck. 2. Give way to a truck completing a U-turn at an intersection.

Uncontrolled intersections 13. 9. At the intersection of unequal roads, the driver of a vehicle moving on a secondary road must give way to vehicles approaching on the main road, regardless of the direction of their further movement.

At such intersections, a tram has advantages over trackless vehicles and vehicles moving in the same or opposite direction on an equivalent road, regardless of the direction of its movement. In equal conditions, the tram has an advantage!!!

If a sign 4.3 is installed in front of a roundabout intersection in combination with a sign 2.4 or 2.5, the driver of a vehicle located at the intersection has priority over vehicles entering such an intersection. Main circle

13. 10. In the event that the main road at an intersection changes direction, drivers moving along the main road must follow the rules for driving through intersections of equivalent roads. Drivers driving on secondary roads should follow the same rules. Interference on the right

13. 11. At the intersection of equivalent roads, the driver of a trackless vehicle is obliged to give way to vehicles approaching from the right. Tram drivers should follow the same rule among themselves. At such intersections, the tram has priority over trackless vehicles, regardless of the direction of its movement.

13. 12. When turning left or making a U-turn, the driver of a trackless vehicle is obliged to give way to vehicles moving on an equivalent road from the opposite direction straight or to the right. Tram drivers should follow the same rule among themselves. 13. If the driver cannot determine the presence of surface on the road (darkness, mud, snow, etc.), and there are no priority signs, he should assume that he is on a secondary road.
